Bible Version
Book
Chapter
1
And it cameH1961 to pass, whenH834 SamuelH8050 was old,H2204 that he madeH7760 his sonsH1121 judgesH8199 over Israel.H3478
2
Now the nameH8034 of his firstbornH1060 was Joel;H3100 and the nameH8034 of his second,H4932 Abiah:H29 they were judgesH8199 in Beersheba.H884
3
And his sonsH1121 walkedH1980 not in his ways,H1870 but turnedH5186 asideH5186 afterH310 lucre,H1215 and tookH3947 bribes,H7810 and pervertedH5186 judgment.H4941
4
Then allH3605 the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 themselves together, and cameH935 to SamuelH8050 to Ramah,H7414
5
And saidH559 to him, Behold,H2009 you are old,H2204 and your sonsH1121 walkH1980 not in your ways:H1870 nowH6258 makeH7760 us a kingH4428 to judgeH8199 us like allH3605 the nations.H1471
6
But the thingH1697 displeasedH7489 H5869 Samuel,H8050 whenH834 they said,H559 GiveH5414 us a kingH4428 to judgeH8199 us. And SamuelH8050 prayedH6419 to the LORD.H3068
7
And the LORDH3068 saidH559 to Samuel,H8050 ListenH8085 to the voiceH6963 of the peopleH5971 in allH3605 that they sayH559 to you: for they have not rejectedH3988 you, but they have rejectedH3988 me, that I should not reignH4427 overH5921 them.
8
According to allH3605 the worksH4639 whichH834 they have doneH6213 since the dayH3117 that I broughtH5927 them up out of EgyptH4714 even to thisH2088 day,H3117 with which they have forsakenH5800 me, and servedH5647 otherH312 gods,H430 soH3651 doH6213 they alsoH1571 to you.
9
NowH6258 therefore listenH8085 to their voice:H6963 however,H389 yetH3588 protestH5749 solemnlyH5749 to them, and showH5046 them the mannerH4941 of the kingH4428 that shall reignH4427 overH5921 them.
10
And SamuelH8050 toldH559 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068 to the peopleH5971 that askedH7592 of him a king.H4428
11
And he said,H559 ThisH2088 will be the mannerH4941 of the kingH4428 that shall reignH4427 over you: He will takeH3947 your sons,H1121 and appointH7760 them for himself, for his chariots,H4818 and to be his horsemen;H6571 and some shall runH7323 beforeH6440 his chariots.H4818
12
And he will appointH7760 him captainsH8269 over thousands,H505 and captainsH8269 over fifties;H2572 and will set them to earH2790 his ground,H2758 and to reapH7114 his harvest,H7105 and to makeH6213 his instrumentsH3627 of war,H4421 and instrumentsH3627 of his chariots.H7393
13
And he will takeH3947 your daughtersH1323 to be confectionaries,H7543 and to be cooks,H2876 and to be bakers.H644
14
And he will takeH3947 your fields,H7704 and your vineyards,H3754 and your olive groves,H2132 even the bestH2896 of them, and giveH5414 them to his servants.H5650
15
And he will take the tenthH6237 of your seed,H2233 and of your vineyards,H3754 and giveH5414 to his officers,H5631 and to his servants.H5650
16
And he will takeH3947 your menservants,H5650 and your maidservants,H8198 and your bestH2896 youngH970 men, and your asses,H2543 and putH6213 them to his work.H4399
17
He will take the tenthH6237 of your sheep:H6629 and you shall be his servants.H5650
18
And you shall cryH2199 out in that dayH3117 becauseH6440 of your kingH4428 whichH834 you shall have chosenH977 you; and the LORDH3068 will not hearH6030 you in that day.H3117
19
Nevertheless the peopleH5971 refusedH3985 to obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of Samuel;H8050 and they said,H559 No;H3808 but we will haveH1961 a kingH4428 overH5921 us;
20
That we alsoH1571 may be like allH3605 the nations;H1471 and that our kingH4428 may judgeH8199 us, and goH3318 out beforeH6440 us, and fightH3898 our battles.H4421
21
And SamuelH8050 heardH8085 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of the people,H5971 and he rehearsedH1696 them in the earsH241 of the LORD.H3068
22
And the LORDH3068 saidH559 to Samuel,H8050 ListenH8085 to their voice,H6963 and make them a king.H4428 And SamuelH8050 saidH559 to the menH582 of Israel,H3478 GoH3212 you every manH376 to his city.H5892
