Bible Version
Book
Chapter
1
And he commandedH6680 the stewardH834 H5921 of his house,H1004 saying,H559 FillH4390 the men'sH582 sacksH572 with food,H400 as muchH834 as they canH3201 carry,H5375 and putH7760 every man'sH376 moneyH3701 in his sack'sH572 mouth.H6310
2
And putH7760 my cup,H1375 the silverH3701 cup,H1375 in the sack'sH572 mouthH6310 of the youngest,H6996 and his cornH7668 money.H3701 And he didH6213 according to the wordH1697 that JosephH3130 had spoken.H1696
3
As soon as the morningH1242 was light,H216 the menH582 were sentH7971 away, they and their asses.H2543
4
And when they were goneH3318 out of the city,H5892 and not yet farH7368 off, JosephH3130 saidH559 to his steward,H834 H5921 Up, followH7291 afterH310 the men;H582 and when you do overtakeH5381 them, sayH559 to them, WhyH4100 have you rewardedH7999 evilH7451 for good?H2896
5
Is not thisH2088 it in whichH834 my lordH113 drinks,H8354 and whereby indeed he divines?H5172 you have done evilH7489 in soH834 doing.H6213
6
And he overtookH5381 them, and he spokeH1696 to them theseH411 same words.H1697
7
And they saidH559 to him, WhyH4100 saidH1696 my lordH113 theseH428 words?H1697 God forbidH2486 that your servantsH5650 should doH6213 according to thisH2088 thing:H1697
8
Behold,H2005 the money,H3701 whichH834 we foundH4672 in our sacks' H572mouths,H6310 we broughtH7725 againH7725 to you out of the landH776 of Canaan:H3667 howH349 then should we stealH1589 out of your lord'sH113 houseH1004 silverH3701 orH176 gold?H2091
9
With whomsoeverH834 of your servantsH5650 it be found,H4672 both let him die,H4191 and we alsoH1571 will be my lord'sH113 slaves.H5650
10
And he said,H559 NowH6258 alsoH1571 let it be according to your words:H1697 he with whomH834 it is foundH4672 shall be my servant;H5650 and you shall be blameless.H5355
11
Then they speedilyH4116 tookH3381 downH3381 every manH376 his sackH572 to the ground,H776 and openedH6605 every manH376 his sack.H572
12
And he searched,H2664 and beganH2490 at the oldest,H1419 and leftH3615 at the youngest:H6996 and the cupH1375 was foundH4672 in Benjamin'sH1144 sack.H572
13
Then they rentH7167 their clothes,H8071 and ladedH6006 every manH376 his ass,H2543 and returnedH7725 to the city.H5892
14
And JudahH3063 and his brothersH251 cameH935 to Joseph'sH3130 house;H1004 for he was yetH5750 there:H8033 and they fellH5307 beforeH6440 him on the ground.H776
15
And JosephH3130 saidH559 to them, WhatH4100 deedH4639 is thisH2088 that you have done?H6213 knowH3045 you not that such a manH376 as I can certainly divine?H5172
16
And JudahH3063 said,H559 WhatH4100 shall we sayH559 to my lord?H113 whatH4100 shall we speak?H1696 or howH4100 shall we clearH6663 ourselves? GodH430 has foundH4672 out the iniquityH5771 of your servants:H5650 behold,H2009 we are my lord'sH113 servants,H5650 bothH1571 we, and he alsoH1571 with whomH834 the cupH1375 is found.H4672
17
And he said,H559 God forbidH2486 that I should doH6213 so:H2063 but the manH376 in whose handH3027 the cupH1375 is found,H4672 he shall be my servant;H5650 and as for you, getH5927 you up in peaceH7965 to your father.H1
18
Then JudahH3063 cameH5066 nearH5066 to him, and said,H559 OhH994 my lord,H113 let your servant,H5650 I prayH4994 you, speakH1696 a wordH1697 in my lord'sH113 ears,H241 and let not your angerH639 burnH2734 against your servant:H5650 for you are even as Pharaoh.H6547
19
My lordH113 askedH7592 his servants,H5650 saying,H559 HaveH3426 you a father,H1 orH176 a brother?H251
20
And we saidH559 to my lord,H113 We haveH3426 a father,H1 an oldH2205 man,H376 and a childH3206 of his oldH2208 age, a littleH6996 one; and his brotherH251 is dead,H4191 and he aloneH905 is leftH3498 of his mother,H517 and his fatherH1 lovesH157 him.
21
And you saidH559 to your servants,H5650 BringH3381 him downH3381 to me, that I may setH7760 my eyesH5869 on him.
22
And we saidH559 to my lord,H113 The ladH5288 cannotH3808 H3201 leaveH5800 his father:H1 for if he should leaveH5800 his father,H1 his father would die.H4191
23
And you saidH559 to your servants,H5650 ExceptH518 H3808 your youngestH6996 brotherH251 comeH3381 downH3381 with you, you shall seeH7200 my faceH6440 noH3808 more.H3254
24
And it cameH1961 to pass whenH3588 we cameH5927 up to your servantH5650 my father,H1 we toldH5046 him the wordsH1697 of my lord.H113
25
And our fatherH1 said,H559 GoH7725 again,H7725 and buyH7666 us a littleH4592 food.H400
26
And we said,H559 We cannotH3808 H3201 goH3381 down:H3381 ifH518 our youngestH6996 brotherH251 be with us, then will we goH3381 down:H3381 for we mayH3201 not seeH7200 the man'sH376 face,H6440 exceptH369 our youngestH6996 brotherH251 be with us.
27
And your servantH5650 my fatherH1 saidH559 to us, You knowH3045 that my wifeH802 boreH3205 me twoH8147 sons:
28
And the oneH259 wentH3318 out from me, and I said,H559 SurelyH389 he is tornH2963 in pieces; and I sawH7200 him not since:H2008
29
And ifH518 you takeH3947 thisH2088 alsoH1571 from me, and mischiefH611 befallH7136 him, you shall bringH3381 downH3381 my grayH7872 hairs with sorrowH7451 to the grave.H7585
30
NowH6258 therefore when I comeH935 to your servantH5650 my father,H1 and the ladH5288 be not with us; seeing that his lifeH5315 is boundH7194 up in the lad'sH5288 life;H5315
31
It shall comeH1961 to pass, when he seesH7200 that the ladH5288 is not with us, that he will die:H4191 and your servantsH5650 shall bringH3381 downH3381 the grayH7872 hairs of your servantH5650 our fatherH1 with sorrowH3015 to the grave.H7585
32
For your servantH5650 becameH6148 suretyH6148 for the ladH5288 to my father,H1 saying,H559 IfH518 I bringH935 him not to you, then I shall bearH2398 the blameH2398 to my fatherH1 for ever.H3605
33
NowH6258 therefore, I prayH4994 you, let your servantH5650 abideH3427 insteadH8478 of the ladH5288 a slaveH5650 to my lord;H113 and let the ladH5288 goH5927 up with his brothers.H251
34
For howH349 shall I goH5927 up to my father,H1 and the ladH5288 be not with me? lestH6435 peradventure I seeH7200 the evilH7451 that shall comeH4672 on my father.H1
