And againH3254 the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 against Israel,H3478 and he movedH5496 DavidH1732 against them to say,H559 Go,H3212 numberH4487 IsraelH3478 and Judah.H3063
2
For the kingH4428 saidH559 to JoabH3097 the captainH8269 of the host,H2428 whichH834 was with him, GoH7751 nowH4994 throughH7751 allH3605 the tribesH7626 of Israel,H3478 from DanH1835 even to Beersheba,H884 and numberH6485 you the people,H5971 that I may knowH3045 the numberH4557 of the people.H5971
3
And JoabH3097 saidH559 to the king,H4428 Now the LORDH3068 your GodH430 addH3254 to the people,H5971 how many soever they be, an hundred times,H3967 H6471 and that the eyesH5869 of my lordH113 the kingH4428 may seeH7200 it: but whyH4100 does my lordH113 the kingH4428 delightH2654 in thisH2088 thing?H1697
4
Notwithstanding the king'sH4428 wordH1697 prevailedH2388 againstH413 Joab,H3097 and againstH5921 the captainsH8269 of the host.H2428 And JoabH3097 and the captainsH8269 of the hostH2428 wentH3318 out from the presenceH6440 of the king,H4428 to numberH6485 the peopleH5971 of Israel.H3478
5
And they passedH5674 overH5674 Jordan,H3383 and pitchedH2583 in Aroer,H6177 on the rightH3225 sideH3225 of the cityH5892 that lies in the middleH8432 of the riverH5158 of Gad,H1410 and towardH413 Jazer:H3270
6
Then they cameH935 to Gilead,H1568 and to the landH776 of Tahtimhodshi;H8483 and they cameH935 to Danjaan,H1842 and aboutH5439 to Zidon,H6721
7
And cameH935 to the strongH4013 holdH4013 of Tyre,H6865 and to allH3605 the citiesH5892 of the Hivites,H2340 and of the Canaanites:H3669 and they wentH3318 out to the southH5045 of Judah,H3063 even to Beersheba.H884
8
So when they had goneH7751 through allH3605 the land,H776 they cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 at the endH7097 of nineH8672 monthsH2320 and twentyH6242 days.H3117
9
And JoabH3097 gaveH5414 up the sumH4557 of the numberH4662 of the peopleH5971 to the king:H4428 and there were in IsraelH3478 eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH505 valiantH2428 menH376 that drewH8025 the sword;H2719 and the menH376 of JudahH3063 were fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH505 men.H376
10
And David'sH1732 heartH3820 smoteH5221 him afterH310 that he had numberedH5608 the people.H5971 And DavidH1732 saidH559 to the LORD,H3068 I have sinnedH2398 greatlyH3966 in that I have done:H6213 and now,H6258 I beseechH4994 you, O LORD,H3068 takeH5674 awayH5674 the iniquityH5771 of your servant;H5650 for I have done veryH3966 foolishly.H5528
11
For when DavidH1732 was up in the morning,H1242 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to the prophetH5030 Gad,H1410 David'sH1732 seer,H2374 saying,H559
12
GoH1980 and sayH559 to David,H1732 ThusH3541 saidH1696 the LORD,H3068 I offerH5190 you threeH7969 things; chooseH977 you oneH259 of them, that I may doH6213 it to you.
13
So GadH1410 cameH935 to David,H1732 and toldH5046 him, and saidH559 to him, Shall sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 comeH935 to you in your land?H776 or will you fleeH5127 threeH7969 monthsH2320 beforeH6440 your enemies,H6862 while they pursueH7291 you? or that there be threeH7969 days'H3117 pestilenceH1698 in your land?H776 nowH6258 advise,H3045 and seeH7200 whatH4100 answerH1697 I shall returnH7725 to him that sentH7971 me.
14
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to Gad,H1410 I am in a greatH3966 strait:H6887 let us fallH5307 nowH4994 into the handH3027 of the LORD;H3068 for his merciesH7356 are great:H7227 and let me not fallH5307 into the handH3027 of man.H120
15
So the LORDH3068 sentH5414 a pestilenceH1698 on IsraelH3478 from the morningH1242 even to the timeH6256 appointed:H4150 and there diedH4191 of the peopleH5971 from DanH1835 even to BeershebaH884 seventyH7657 thousandH505 men.H376
16
And when the angelH4397 stretchedH7971 out his handH3027 on JerusalemH3389 to destroyH7843 it, the LORDH3068 repentedH5162 him of the evil,H7451 and saidH559 to the angelH4397 that destroyedH7843 the people,H5971 It is enough:H7227 stayH7503 nowH6258 your hand.H3027 And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 was by the threshing placeH1637 of AraunahH728 the Jebusite.H2983
17
And DavidH1732 spokeH559 to the LORDH3068 when he sawH7200 the angelH4397 that smoteH5221 the people,H5971 and said,H559 See,H2009 I have sinned,H2398 and I have done wickedly:H5753 but theseH428 sheep,H6629 whatH4100 have they done?H6213 let your hand,H3027 I prayH4994 you, be against me, and against my father'sH1 house.H1004
18
And GadH1410 cameH935 that dayH3117 to David,H1732 and saidH559 to him, GoH5927 up, raiseH6965 an altarH4196 to the LORDH3068 in the threshing floorH1637 of AraunahH728 the Jebusite.H2983
19
And David,H1732 according to the sayingH1697 of Gad,H1410 wentH5927 up as the LORDH3068 commanded.H6680
20
And AraunahH728 looked,H8259 and sawH7200 the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 comingH5674 on towardH5921 him: and AraunahH728 wentH3318 out, and bowedH7812 himself before the kingH4428 on his faceH639 on the ground.H776
21
And AraunahH728 said,H559 WhyH4069 is my lordH113 the kingH4428 comeH935 to his servant?H5650 And DavidH1732 said,H559 To buyH7069 the threshing floorH1637 of you, to buildH1129 an altarH4196 to the LORD,H3068 that the plagueH4046 may be stayedH6113 from the people.H5971
22
And AraunahH728 saidH559 to David,H1732 Let my lordH113 the kingH4428 takeH3947 and offerH5927 up what seemsH5869 goodH2896 to him: behold,H7200 here be oxenH1241 for burntH5930 sacrifice, and threshingH4173 instrumentsH3627 and other instruments of the oxenH1241 for wood.H6086
23
AllH3605 these things did Araunah,H728 as a king,H4428 giveH5414 to the king.H4428 And AraunahH728 saidH559 to the king,H4428 The LORDH3068 your GodH430 acceptH7521 you.
24
And the kingH4428 saidH559 to Araunah,H728 No;H3808 but I will surelyH3588 H518 buyH7069 it of you at a price:H4242 neitherH3808 will I offerH5927 burntH5930 offerings to the LORDH3068 my GodH430 of that which does costH2600 me nothing.H2600 So DavidH1732 boughtH7069 the threshing floorH1637 and the oxenH1241 for fiftyH2572 shekelsH8255 of silver.H3701
25
And DavidH1732 builtH1129 thereH8033 an altarH4196 to the LORD,H3068 and offeredH5927 burntH5930 offerings and peaceH8002 offerings. So the LORDH3068 was entreatedH6279 for the land,H776 and the plagueH4046 was stayedH6113 from Israel.H3478
