And it cameH1961 to pass, when DavidH1732 and his menH582 were comeH935 to ZiklagH6860 on the thirdH7992 day,H3117 that the AmalekitesH6003 had invadedH6584 the south,H5045 and Ziklag,H6860 and smittenH5221 Ziklag,H6860 and burnedH8313 it with fire;H784
2
And had taken the womenH802 captives,H7617 that were therein: they slewH4191 not any,H376 either greatH1419 or small,H6996 but carriedH5090 them away, and wentH3212 on their way.H1870
3
So DavidH1732 and his menH582 cameH935 to the city,H5892 and, behold,H2009 it was burnedH8313 with fire;H784 and their wives,H802 and their sons,H1121 and their daughters,H1323 were taken captives.H7617
4
Then DavidH1732 and the peopleH5971 that were with him liftedH5375 up their voiceH6963 and wept,H1058 untilH5704 H834 they had noH369 more powerH3581 to weep.H1058
5
And David'sH1732 twoH8147 wivesH802 were taken captives,H7617 AhinoamH293 the Jezreelitess,H3159 and AbigailH26 the wifeH802 of NabalH5037 the Carmelite.H3761
6
And DavidH1732 was greatlyH3966 distressed;H3334 for the peopleH5971 spokeH559 of stoningH5619 him, becauseH3588 the soulH5315 of allH3605 the peopleH5971 was grieved,H4784 every manH376 for his sonsH1121 and for his daughters:H1323 but DavidH1732 encouragedH2388 himself in the LORDH3068 his God.H430
7
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbiatharH54 the priest,H3548 Ahimelech'sH288 son,H1121 I prayH4994 you, bringH5066 me hereH5066 the ephod.H646 And AbiatharH54 broughtH5066 thither the ephodH646 to David.H1732
8
And DavidH1732 inquiredH7592 at the LORD,H3068 saying,H559 Shall I pursueH7291 afterH310 thisH2088 troop?H1416 shall I overtakeH5381 them? And he answeredH559 him, Pursue:H7291 for you shall surely overtakeH5381 them, and without fail recoverH5337 all.
9
So DavidH1732 went,H3212 he and the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376 that were with him, and cameH935 to the brookH5158 Besor,H1308 where those that were leftH3498 behindH3498 stayed.H5975
10
But DavidH1732 pursued,H7291 he and fourH702 hundredH3697 men:H376 for two hundredH3967 stayedH5975 behind,H5975 whichH834 were so faintH6296 that they could not goH5674 overH5674 the brookH5158 Besor.H1308
11
And they foundH4672 an EgyptianH4713 in the field,H7704 and broughtH3947 him to David,H1732 and gaveH5414 him bread,H3899 and he did eat;H398 and they made him drinkH8248 water;H4325
12
And they gaveH5414 him a pieceH6400 of a cakeH1690 of figs, and twoH8147 clustersH6778 of raisins:H6778 and when he had eaten,H398 his spiritH7307 cameH7725 againH7725 to him: for he had eatenH398 noH3808 bread,H3899 norH3808 drunkH8354 any water,H4325 threeH7969 daysH3117 and threeH7969 nights.H3915
13
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to him, To whomH4310 belong you? and from whereH335 H2088 are you? And he said,H559 I am a youngH5288 man of Egypt,H4713 servantH5650 to an Amalekite;H6003 and my masterH113 leftH5800 me, becauseH3588 threeH7969 days ago I fell sick.H2470
14
We made an invasionH6584 on the southH5045 of the Cherethites,H3774 and on the coast whichH834 belongs to Judah,H3063 and on the southH5045 of Caleb;H3612 and we burnedH8313 ZiklagH6860 with fire.H784
15
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to him, Can you bringH3381 me downH3381 to thisH2088 company?H1416 And he said,H559 SwearH7650 to me by God,H430 that you will neitherH518 killH4191 me, norH518 deliverH5462 me into the handsH3027 of my master,H113 and I will bringH3381 you downH3381 to thisH2088 company.H1416
16
And when he had broughtH3381 him down,H3381 behold,H2009 they were spreadH5203 abroadH5203 on allH3605 the earth,H776 eatingH398 and drinking,H8354 and dancing,H2287 because of allH3605 the greatH1419 spoilH7998 that they had takenH3947 out of the landH776 of the Philistines,H6430 and out of the landH776 of Judah.H3063
17
And DavidH1732 smoteH5221 them from the twilightH5399 even to the eveningH6153 of the nextH4283 day:H4283 and there escapedH4422 not a manH376 of them, saveH3588 H518 fourH702 hundredH3967 youngH5288 men,H376 whichH834 rodeH7392 on camels,H1581 and fled.H5127
18
And DavidH1732 recoveredH5337 allH3605 that the AmalekitesH6003 had carriedH3947 away: and DavidH1732 rescuedH5337 his twoH8147 wives.H802
19
And there was nothingH3808 lackingH5737 to them, neitherH4480 smallH6996 norH5703 great,H1419 neitherH4480 sonsH1121 norH5703 daughters,H1323 neitherH4480 spoil,H7998 norH5703 anyH3605 thing that they had takenH3947 to them: DavidH1732 recoveredH7725 all.H3605
20
And DavidH1732 tookH3947 allH3605 the flocksH6629 and the herds,H1241 which they droveH5090 beforeH6440 thoseH1931 other cattle,H4735 and said,H559 ThisH2088 is David'sH1732 spoil.H7998
21
And DavidH1732 cameH935 to the two hundredH3967 men,H582 whichH834 were so faintH6296 that they could not followH3212 H310 David,H1732 whom they had made also to abideH3427 at the brookH5158 Besor:H1308 and they wentH3318 forthH3318 to meetH7125 David,H1732 and to meetH7125 the peopleH5971 that were with him: and when DavidH1732 cameH5066 nearH5066 to the people,H5971 he salutedH7592 H7965 them.
22
Then answeredH6030 allH3605 the wickedH7451 menH376 and men of Belial,H1100 of those that wentH1980 with David,H1732 and said,H559 BecauseH3282 they wentH1980 not with us, we will not giveH5414 them ought of the spoilH7998 that we have recovered,H5337 saveH3588 H518 to every manH376 his wifeH802 and his children,H1121 that they may leadH5090 them away, and depart.H3212
23
Then saidH559 David,H1732 You shall not doH6213 so,H3651 my brothers,H251 with that whichH834 the LORDH3068 has givenH5414 us, who has preservedH8104 us, and deliveredH5414 the companyH1416 that cameH935 againstH5921 us into our hand.H3027
24
For whoH4310 will listenH8085 to you in thisH2088 matter?H1697 but as his partH2506 is that goesH3381 downH3381 to the battle,H4421 so shall his partH2506 be that tarriesH3427 by the stuff:H3627 they shall partH2505 alike.H3162
25
And it was so from that dayH3117 forward,H4605 that he madeH7760 it a statuteH2706 and an ordinanceH4941 for IsraelH3478 to thisH2088 day.H3117
26
And when DavidH1732 cameH935 to Ziklag,H6860 he sentH7971 of the spoilH7998 to the eldersH2205 of Judah,H3063 even to his friends,H7453 saying,H559 BeholdH2009 a presentH1293 for you of the spoilH7998 of the enemiesH341 of the LORD;H3068
27
To them whichH834 were in Bethel,H1008 and to them whichH834 were in southH5045 Ramoth,H7418 and to them whichH834 were in Jattir,H3492
28
And to them whichH834 were in Aroer,H6177 and to them whichH834 were in Siphmoth,H8224 and to them whichH834 were in Eshtemoa,H851
29
And to them whichH834 were in Rachal,H7403 and to them whichH834 were in the citiesH5892 of the Jerahmeelites,H3397 and to them whichH834 were in the citiesH5892 of the Kenites,H7017
30
And to them whichH834 were in Hormah,H2767 and to them whichH834 were in Chorashan,H3565 and to them whichH834 were in Athach,H6269
31
And to them which were in Hebron,H2275 and to allH3605 the placesH4725 whereH834 H8033 DavidH1732 himself and his menH582 were wontH1980 to haunt.H1980
