1
And it cameH1961 to pass, whenH834 SaulH7586 was returnedH7725 from followingH310 the Philistines,H6430 that it was toldH5046 him, saying,H559 Behold,H2009 DavidH1732 is in the wildernessH4057 of Engedi.H5872
2
Then SaulH7586 tookH3947 threeH7969 thousandH505 chosenH970 menH376 out of allH3605 Israel,H3478 and wentH3212 to seekH1245 DavidH1732 and his menH582 on the rocksH6697 of the wildH3277 goats.H3277
3
And he cameH935 to the sheepcotesH1448 H6629 by the way,H1870 whereH8033 was a cave;H4631 and SaulH7586 wentH935 in to coverH5526 his feet:H7272 and DavidH1732 and his menH582 remainedH3427 in the sidesH3411 of the cave.H4631
4
And the menH582 of DavidH1732 saidH559 to him, BeholdH2009 the dayH3117 of whichH834 the LORDH3068 saidH559 to you, Behold,H2009 I will deliverH5414 your enemyH341 into your hand,H3027 that you may doH6213 to him as it shall seemH1961 H5869 goodH3190 to you. Then DavidH1732 arose,H6965 and cutH3772 off the skirtH3671 of Saul'sH7586 robeH4598 privately.H3909
5
And it cameH1961 to pass afterward,H310 H3651 that David'sH1732 heartH3820 smoteH5221 him, becauseH5921 H834 he had cutH3772 off Saul'sH7586 skirt.H3671
6
And he saidH559 to his men,H582 The LORDH3068 forbidH2486 that I should doH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697 to my master,H113 the LORD'sH3068 anointed,H4899 to stretchH7971 forth my handH3027 against him, seeing he is the anointedH4899 of the LORD.H3068
7
So DavidH1732 stayedH8156 his servantsH582 with these words,H1697 and sufferedH5414 them not to riseH6965 againstH413 Saul.H7586 But SaulH7586 roseH6965 up out of the cave,H4631 and wentH3212 on his way.H1870
8
DavidH1732 also aroseH6965 afterward,H310 H3651 and wentH3318 out of the cave,H4631 and criedH7121 afterH310 Saul,H7586 saying,H559 My lordH113 the king.H4428 And when SaulH7586 lookedH5027 behindH310 him, DavidH1732 stoopedH6915 with his faceH639 to the earth,H776 and bowedH7812 himself.
9
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to Saul,H7586 WhyH4100 hearH8085 you men'sH120 words,H1697 saying,H559 Behold,H2009 DavidH1732 seeksH1245 your hurt?H7451
10
Behold,H2009 thisH2088 dayH3117 your eyesH5869 have seenH7200 howH834 that the LORDH3068 had deliveredH5414 you to dayH3117 into my handH3027 in the cave:H4631 and some badeH559 me killH2026 you: but my eye sparedH2347 you; and I said,H559 I will not putH7971 forthH7971 my handH3027 against my lord;H113 for he is the LORD'sH3068 anointed.H4899
11
Moreover, my father,H1 see,H7200 yes,H637 seeH7200 the skirtH3671 of your robeH4598 in my hand:H3027 for in that I cutH3772 off the skirtH3671 of your robe,H4598 and killedH2026 you not, knowH3045 you and seeH7200 that there is neitherH369 evilH7451 nor transgressionH6588 in my hand,H3027 and I have not sinnedH2398 against you; yet you huntH6658 my soulH5315 to takeH3947 it.
12
The LORDH3068 judgeH8199 betweenH996 me and you, and the LORDH3068 avengeH5358 me of you: but my handH3027 shall not be on you.
13
As saidH559 the proverbH4912 of the ancients,H6931 WickednessH7562 proceedsH3318 from the wicked:H7563 but my handH3027 shall not be on you.
14
AfterH310 whomH4310 is the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 comeH3318 out? afterH310 whomH4310 do you pursue?H7291 afterH310 a deadH4191 dog,H3611 afterH310 a flea.H6550
15
The LORDH3068 therefore be judge,H1784 and judgeH8199 betweenH996 me and you, and see,H7200 and pleadH7378 my cause,H7379 and deliverH8199 me out of your hand.H3027
16
And it cameH1961 to pass, when DavidH1732 had made an endH3615 of speakingH1696 theseH428 wordsH1697 to Saul,H7586 that SaulH7586 said,H559 Is thisH2088 your voice,H6963 my sonH1121 David?H1732 And SaulH7586 liftedH5375 up his voice,H6963 and wept.H1058
17
And he saidH559 to David,H1732 You are more righteousH6662 than I: for you have rewardedH1580 me good,H2896 whereas I have rewardedH1580 you evil.H7451
18
And you have showedH5046 this dayH3117 how that you have dealtH6213 wellH2896 with me: for as muchH854 H834 as when the LORDH3068 had deliveredH5462 me into your hand,H3027 you killedH2026 me not.
19
For ifH3588 a manH376 findH4672 his enemy,H341 will he let him goH7971 wellH2896 away?H1870 why the LORDH3068 rewardH7999 you goodH2896 for that you have doneH6213 to me thisH2088 day.H3117
20
And now,H6258 behold,H2009 I knowH3045 well that you shall surely be king,H4428 and that the kingdomH4467 of IsraelH3478 shall be establishedH6965 in your hand.H3027
21
SwearH7650 nowH6258 therefore to me by the LORD,H3068 that you will not cutH3772 off my seedH2233 afterH310 me, and that you will not destroyH8045 my nameH8034 out of my father'sH1 house.H1004
22
And DavidH1732 sworeH7650 to Saul.H7586 And SaulH7586 wentH3212 home;H1004 but DavidH1732 and his menH582 gotH5927 them up to the hold.H4686
