1
And it cameH1961 to pass, when he had made an endH3615 of speakingH1696 to Saul,H7586 that the soulH5315 of JonathanH3083 was knitH7194 with the soulH5315 of David,H1732 and JonathanH3083 lovedH157 him as his own soul.H5315
2
And SaulH7586 tookH3947 him that day,H3117 and would let him goH7725 noH3808 more homeH7725 to his father'sH1 house.H1004
3
Then JonathanH3083 and DavidH1732 madeH3772 a covenant,H1285 because he lovedH160 him as his own soul.H5315
4
And JonathanH3083 strippedH6584 himself of the robeH4598 that was on him, and gaveH5414 it to David,H1732 and his garments,H4055 even to his sword,H2719 and to his bow,H7198 and to his girdle.H2290
5
And DavidH1732 wentH3318 out whereverH3605 H834 SaulH7586 sentH7971 him, and behavedH7919 himself wisely:H7919 and SaulH7586 setH7760 him overH5921 the menH582 of war,H4421 and he was acceptedH3190 in the sightH5869 of allH3605 the people,H5971 and alsoH1571 in the sightH5869 of Saul'sH7586 servants.H5650
6
And it cameH1961 to pass as they came,H935 when DavidH1732 was returnedH7725 from the slaughterH5221 of the Philistine,H6430 that the womenH802 cameH3318 out of allH3605 citiesH5892 of Israel,H3478 singingH7891 and dancing,H4246 to meetH7125 kingH4428 Saul,H7586 with tabrets,H8596 with joy,H8057 and with instrumentsH7991 of music.
7
And the womenH802 answeredH6030 one another as they played,H7832 and said,H559 SaulH7586 has slainH5221 his thousands,H505 and DavidH1732 his tenH7233 thousands.H505
8
And SaulH7586 was veryH3966 wroth,H2734 and the sayingH1697 displeasedH7489 H5869 him; and he said,H559 They have ascribedH5414 to DavidH1732 tenH7233 thousands,H7233 and to me they have ascribedH5414 but thousands:H505 and what can he have moreH5750 but the kingdom?H4410
9
And SaulH7586 eyedH5770 DavidH1732 from that dayH3117 and forward.H1973
10
And it cameH1961 to pass on the morrow,H4283 that the evilH7451 spiritH7307 from GodH430 cameH6743 on Saul,H7586 and he prophesiedH5012 in the middleH8432 of the house:H1004 and DavidH1732 playedH5059 with his hand,H3027 as at other times:H3117 and there was a javelinH2595 in Saul'sH7586 hand.H3027
11
And SaulH7586 castH2904 the javelin;H2595 for he said,H559 I will smiteH5221 DavidH1732 even to the wallH7023 with it. And DavidH1732 avoidedH5437 out of his presenceH6440 twice.H6471
12
And SaulH7586 was afraidH3372 of David,H1732 becauseH3588 the LORDH3068 was with him, and was departedH5493 from Saul.H7586
13
Therefore SaulH7586 removedH5493 him from him, and madeH7760 him his captainH8269 over a thousand;H505 and he wentH3318 out and cameH935 in beforeH6440 the people.H5971
14
And DavidH1732 behavedH7919 himself wiselyH7919 in allH3605 his ways;H1870 and the LORDH3068 was with him.
15
Why when SaulH7586 sawH7200 that he behavedH7919 himself veryH3966 wisely,H7919 he was afraidH1481 of him.
16
But allH3605 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063 lovedH157 David,H1732 becauseH3588 he wentH3318 out and cameH935 in beforeH6440 them.
17
And SaulH7586 saidH559 to David,H1732 BeholdH2009 my elderH1419 daughterH1323 Merab,H4764 her will I giveH5414 you to wife:H802 onlyH389 be you valiantH1121 H2428 for me, and fightH3898 the LORD'sH3068 battles.H4421 For SaulH7586 said,H559 Let not my handH3027 be on him, but let the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430 be on him.
18
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to Saul,H7586 WhoH4310 am I? and whatH4310 is my life,H2416 or my father'sH1 familyH4940 in Israel,H3478 that I should be sonH2860 in lawH2859 to the king?H4428
19
But it cameH1961 to pass at the timeH6256 when MerabH4764 Saul'sH7586 daughterH1323 should have been givenH5414 to David,H1732 that she was givenH5414 to AdrielH5741 the MeholathiteH4259 to wife.H802
20
And MichalH4324 Saul'sH7586 daughterH1323 lovedH157 David:H1732 and they toldH5046 Saul,H7586 and the thingH1697 pleasedH3477 H5869 him.
21
And SaulH7586 said,H559 I will giveH5414 him her, that she may be a snareH4170 to him, and that the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430 may be against him. Why SaulH7586 saidH559 to David,H1732 You shall this dayH3117 be my sonH2859 in lawH2860 in the one of the two.H8147
22
And SaulH7586 commandedH6680 his servants,H5650 saying, CommuneH1696 with DavidH1732 secretly,H3909 and say,H559 Behold,H2009 the kingH4428 has delightH2654 in you, and allH3605 his servantsH5650 loveH157 you: nowH6258 therefore be the king'sH4428 sonH2859 in law.H2860
23
And Saul'sH7586 servantsH5650 spokeH1696 thoseH428 wordsH1697 in the earsH241 of David.H1732 And DavidH1732 said,H559 SeemsH5869 it to you a lightH7043 thing to be a king'sH4428 sonH2859 in law,H2860 seeing that I am a poorH7326 man,H376 and lightlyH7034 esteemed?H7043
24
And the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586 toldH5046 him, saying,H559 On thisH428 mannerH1697 spokeH1696 David.H1732
25
And SaulH7586 said,H559 ThusH3541 shall you sayH559 to David,H1732 The kingH4428 desiresH2656 not any dowry,H4119 but an hundredH3967 foreskinsH6190 of the Philistines,H6430 to be avengedH5358 of the king'sH4428 enemies.H341 But SaulH7586 thoughtH2803 to make DavidH1732 fallH5307 by the handH3027 of the Philistines.H6430
26
And when his servantsH5650 toldH5046 DavidH1732 theseH428 words,H1697 it pleasedH3477 H5869 DavidH1732 well to be the king'sH4428 sonH2859 in law:H2860 and the daysH3117 were not expired.H4390
27
Why DavidH1732 aroseH6965 and went,H3212 he and his men,H582 and slewH5221 of the PhilistinesH6430 two hundredH3967 men;H376 and DavidH1732 broughtH935 their foreskins,H6190 and they gave them in fullH4390 tale to the king,H4428 that he might be the king'sH4428 sonH2859 in law.H2860 And SaulH7586 gaveH5414 him MichalH4324 his daughterH1323 to wife.H802
28
And SaulH7586 sawH7200 and knewH3045 that the LORDH3068 was with David,H1732 and that MichalH4324 Saul'sH7586 daughterH1323 lovedH157 him.
29
And SaulH7586 was yet the moreH3254 afraidH3372 of David;H1732 and SaulH7586 becameH1961 David'sH1732 enemyH341 continually.H3605 H3117
30
Then the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH3318 forth:H3318 and it cameH1961 to pass, afterH167 they wentH3318 forth,H3318 that DavidH1732 behavedH7919 himself more wiselyH7919 than allH3605 the servantsH5650 of Saul;H7586 so that his nameH8034 was muchH3966 setH3335 by.
