Now the PhilistinesH6430 gatheredH622 together their armiesH4264 to battle,H4421 and were gatheredH622 together at Shochoh,H7755 whichH834 belongs to Judah,H3063 and pitchedH2583 betweenH996 ShochohH7755 and Azekah,H5825 in Ephesdammim.H658
2
And SaulH7586 and the menH376 of IsraelH3478 were gatheredH622 together,H3162 and pitchedH2583 by the valleyH6010 of Elah,H425 and set the battleH4421 in arrayH6186 againstH7125 the Philistines.H6430
3
And the PhilistinesH6430 stoodH5975 onH413 a mountainH2022 onH413 the oneH2088 side, and IsraelH3478 stoodH5975 onH413 a mountainH2022 onH413 the otherH2088 side: and there was a valleyH1516 betweenH996 them.
4
And there wentH3318 out a championH376 H1143 out of the campH4264 of the Philistines,H6430 namedH8034 Goliath,H1555 of Gath,H1661 whose heightH1363 was sixH8337 cubitsH520 and a span.H2239
5
And he had an helmetH3553 of brassH5178 on his head,H7218 and he was armedH3847 with a coatH8302 of mail;H7193 and the weightH4948 of the coatH8302 was fiveH2568 thousandH505 shekelsH8255 of brass.H5178
6
And he had greavesH4697 of brassH5178 on his legs,H7272 and a targetH3591 of brassH5178 betweenH996 his shoulders.H3802
7
And the staffH2671 of his spearH2595 was like a weaver'sH707 beam;H4500 and his spear'sH2595 headH3852 weighed sixH8337 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of iron:H1270 and one bearingH5375 a shieldH6793 wentH1980 beforeH6440 him.
8
And he stoodH5975 and criedH7121 to the armiesH4634 of Israel,H3478 and saidH559 to them, WhyH4100 are you comeH3318 out to set your battleH4421 in array?H6186 am not I a Philistine,H6430 and you servantsH5650 to Saul?H7586 chooseH1262 you a manH376 for you, and let him comeH3381 downH3381 to me.
9
IfH518 he be ableH3201 to fightH3898 with me, and to killH5221 me, then will we be your servants:H5650 but ifH518 I prevailH3201 against him, and killH5221 him, then shall you be our servants,H5650 and serveH5647 us.
10
And the PhilistineH6430 said,H559 I defyH2778 the armiesH4634 of IsraelH3478 thisH2088 day;H3117 giveH5414 me a man,H376 that we may fightH3898 together.H3162
11
When SaulH7586 and allH3605 IsraelH3478 heardH8085 thoseH428 wordsH1697 of the Philistine,H6430 they were dismayed,H2865 and greatlyH3966 afraid.H3372
12
Now DavidH1732 was the sonH1121 of that EphrathiteH673 of Bethlehemjudah,H1035 whose nameH8034 was Jesse;H3448 and he had eightH8083 sons:H1121 and the manH376 wentH935 among menH582 for an oldH2204 man in the daysH3117 of Saul.H7586
13
And the threeH7969 oldestH1419 sonsH1121 of JesseH3448 wentH3212 and followedH1980 H310 SaulH7586 to the battle:H4421 and the namesH8034 of his threeH7969 sonsH1121 that wentH1980 to the battleH4421 were EliabH446 the firstborn,H1060 and nextH4932 to him Abinadab,H41 and the thirdH7992 Shammah.H8048
14
And DavidH1732 was the youngest:H3996 and the threeH7969 oldestH1419 followedH1980 H310 Saul.H7586
15
But DavidH1732 wentH1980 and returnedH7725 from SaulH7586 to feedH7462 his father'sH1 sheepH6629 at Bethlehem.H1035
16
And the PhilistineH6430 drew nearH5066 morningH7925 and evening,H6150 and presentedH3320 himself fortyH705 days.H3117
17
And JesseH3448 saidH559 to DavidH1732 his son,H1121 TakeH3947 nowH4994 for your brothersH251 an ephahH374 of thisH2088 parchedH7039 corn, and theseH2088 tenH6235 loaves,H3899 and runH7323 to the campH4264 of your brothers;H251
18
And carryH935 theseH428 tenH6235 cheesesH2757 H2461 to the captainH8269 of their thousand,H505 and lookH6485 how your brothersH251 fare,H7965 and takeH3947 their pledge.H6161
19
Now Saul,H7586 and they, and allH3605 the menH376 of Israel,H3478 were in the valleyH6010 of Elah,H425 fightingH3898 with the Philistines.H6430
20
And DavidH1732 roseH7925 up earlyH7925 in the morning,H1242 and leftH5203 the sheepH6629 with a keeper,H8104 and took,H5375 and went,H3212 as JesseH3448 had commandedH6680 him; and he cameH935 to the trench,H4570 as the hostH2428 was goingH3318 forthH3318 to the fight,H4634 and shoutedH7321 for the battle.H4421
21
For IsraelH3478 and the PhilistinesH6430 had put the battle in array,H6186 armyH4634 againstH7125 army.H4634
22
And DavidH1732 leftH5203 his carriageH3627 in the handH3027 of the keeperH8104 of the carriage,H3627 and ranH7323 into the army,H4634 and cameH935 and salutedH7592 H7965 his brothers.H251
23
And as he talkedH1696 with them, behold,H2009 there cameH5927 up the champion,H376 H1143 the PhilistineH6430 of Gath,H1661 GoliathH1555 by name,H8034 out of the armiesH4630 of the Philistines,H6430 and spokeH1696 according to the sameH428 words:H1697 and DavidH1732 heardH8085 them.
24
And allH3605 the menH376 of Israel,H3478 when they sawH7200 the man,H376 fledH5127 from him, and were soreH3966 afraid.H3372
25
And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 said,H559 Have you seenH7200 thisH2088 manH376 that is comeH5927 up? surelyH3588 to defyH2778 IsraelH3478 is he comeH5927 up: and it shall be, that the manH376 whoH834 killsH5221 him, the kingH4428 will enrichH6238 him with greatH1419 riches,H6239 and will giveH5414 him his daughter,H1323 and makeH6213 his father'sH1 houseH1004 freeH2670 in Israel.H3478
26
And DavidH1732 spokeH559 to the menH582 that stoodH5975 by him, saying,H559 WhatH4100 shall be doneH6213 to the manH376 that killsH5221 thisH1975 Philistine,H6430 and takesH5493 away the reproachH2781 from Israel?H3478 for whoH4310 is thisH2088 uncircumcisedH6189 Philistine,H6430 that he should defyH2778 the armiesH4634 of the livingH2416 God?H430
27
And the peopleH5971 answeredH559 him after thisH2088 manner,H1697 saying,H559 SoH3541 shall it be doneH6213 to the manH376 that killsH5221 him.
28
And EliabH446 his oldestH1419 brotherH251 heardH8085 when he spokeH1696 to the men;H582 and Eliab'sH446 angerH639 was kindledH2734 against David,H1732 and he said,H559 WhyH4100 cameH3381 you downH3381 here? and with whomH4310 have you leftH5203 thoseH2007 fewH4592 sheepH6629 in the wilderness?H4057 I knowH3045 your pride,H2087 and the naughtinessH7455 of your heart;H3824 for you are comeH3381 downH3381 that you might seeH7200 the battle.H4421
29
And DavidH1732 said,H559 WhatH4100 have I nowH6258 done?H6213 Is there not a cause?H1697
30
And he turnedH5437 from him towardH413 H4136 another,H312 and spokeH559 after the sameH2088 manner:H1697 and the peopleH5971 answeredH7725 H1697 him againH7725 after the formerH7223 manner.H1697
31
And when the wordsH1697 were heardH8085 whichH834 DavidH1732 spoke,H1696 they rehearsedH5046 them beforeH6440 Saul:H7586 and he sentH3947 for him.
32
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to Saul,H7586 Let noH408 man'sH120 heartH3820 failH5307 becauseH5921 of him; your servantH5650 will goH3212 and fightH3898 with thisH2088 Philistine.H6430
33
And SaulH7586 saidH559 to David,H1732 You are not ableH3201 to goH3212 againstH413 thisH2088 PhilistineH6430 to fightH3898 with him: for you are but a youth,H5288 and he a manH376 of warH4421 from his youth.H5271
34
And DavidH1732 saidH559 to Saul,H7586 Your servantH5650 keptH7462 his father'sH1 sheep,H6629 and there cameH935 a lion,H738 and a bear,H1677 and tookH5375 a lambH7716 out of the flock:H5739
35
And I wentH3318 out afterH310 him, and smoteH5221 him, and deliveredH5337 it out of his mouth:H6310 and when he aroseH6965 againstH5921 me, I caughtH2388 him by his beard,H2206 and smoteH5221 him, and slewH4191 him.
36
Your servantH5650 slewH5221 bothH1571 the lionH738 and the bear:H1677 and thisH2088 uncircumcisedH6189 PhilistineH6430 shall be as oneH259 of them, seeingH3588 he has defiedH2778 the armiesH4634 of the livingH2416 God.H430
37
DavidH1732 saidH559 moreover, The LORDH3068 that deliveredH5337 me out of the pawH3027 of the lion,H738 and out of the pawH3027 of the bear,H1677 he will deliverH5337 me out of the handH3027 of thisH2088 Philistine.H6430 And SaulH7586 saidH559 to David,H1732 Go,H3212 and the LORDH3068 be with you.
38
And SaulH7586 armedH3847 DavidH1732 with his armor,H4055 and he putH5414 an helmetH6959 of brassH5178 on his head;H7218 also he armedH3847 him with a coatH8302 of mail.
39
And DavidH1732 girdedH2296 his swordH2719 on his armor,H4055 and he assayedH2974 to go;H3212 for he had not provedH5254 it. And DavidH1732 saidH559 to Saul,H7586 I cannotH3808 goH3212 with these;H428 for I have not provedH5254 them. And DavidH1732 putH5493 them offH5921 him.
40
And he tookH3947 his staffH4731 in his hand,H3027 and choseH977 him fiveH2568 smoothH2512 stonesH68 out of the brook,H5158 and putH7760 them in a shepherd'sH7462 bagH3627 whichH834 he had, even in a money;H3219 and his slingH7050 was in his hand:H3027 and he drew nearH5066 to the Philistine.H6430
41
And the PhilistineH6430 cameH3212 on and drew nearH7126 to David;H1732 and the manH376 that boreH5375 the shieldH6793 went beforeH6440 him.
42
And when the PhilistineH6430 lookedH5027 about,H5027 and sawH7200 David,H1732 he disdainedH959 him: for he was but a youth,H5288 and ruddy,H132 and of a fairH3303 countenance.H4758
43
And the PhilistineH6430 saidH559 to David,H1732 Am I a dog,H3611 that you comeH935 to me with staves?H4731 And the PhilistineH6430 cursedH7043 DavidH1732 by his gods.H430
44
And the PhilistineH6430 saidH559 to David,H1732 ComeH3212 to me, and I will giveH5414 your fleshH1320 to the fowlsH5775 of the air,H8064 and to the beastsH929 of the field.H7704
45
Then saidH559 DavidH1732 to the Philistine,H6430 You comeH935 to me with a sword,H2719 and with a spear,H2595 and with a shield:H3591 but I comeH935 to you in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of hosts,H6635 the GodH430 of the armiesH4634 of Israel,H3478 whomH834 you have defied.H2778
46
ThisH2088 dayH3117 will the LORDH3068 deliverH5462 you into my hand;H3027 and I will smiteH5221 you, and takeH5493 your headH7218 from you; and I will giveH5414 the carcassesH6297 of the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 thisH2088 dayH3117 to the fowlsH5775 of the air,H8064 and to the wildH2416 beastsH2416 of the earth;H776 that allH3605 the earthH776 may knowH3045 that there is a GodH430 in Israel.H3478
47
And allH3605 thisH2088 assemblyH6951 shall knowH3045 that the LORDH3068 savesH3467 not with swordH2719 and spear:H2595 for the battleH4421 is the LORD's,H3068 and he will giveH5414 you into our hands.H3027
48
And it cameH1961 to pass, whenH3588 the PhilistineH6430 arose,H6965 and came,H3212 and drew nearH7126 to meetH7125 David,H1732 that DavidH1732 hastened,H4116 and ranH7323 toward the armyH4634 to meetH7125 the Philistine.H6430
49
And DavidH1732 putH7971 his handH3027 in his bag,H3627 and tookH3947 thereH8033 a stone,H68 and slangH7049 it, and smoteH5221 the PhilistineH6430 in his forehead,H4696 that the stoneH68 sunkH2883 into his forehead;H4696 and he fellH5307 on his faceH6440 to the earth.H776
50
So DavidH1732 prevailedH2388 overH4480 the PhilistineH6430 with a slingH7050 and with a stone,H68 and smoteH5221 the Philistine,H6430 and slewH4191 him; but there was noH369 swordH2719 in the handH3027 of David.H1732
51
Therefore DavidH1732 ran,H7323 and stoodH5975 on the Philistine,H6430 and tookH3947 his sword,H2719 and drewH8025 it out of the sheathH8593 thereof, and slewH4191 him, and cutH3772 off his headH7218 therewith. And when the PhilistinesH6430 sawH7200 their championH1368 was dead,H4191 they fled.H5127
52
And the menH582 of IsraelH3478 and of JudahH3063 arose,H6965 and shouted,H7321 and pursuedH7291 the Philistines,H6430 untilH5704 you comeH935 to the valley,H1516 and to the gatesH8179 of Ekron.H6138 And the woundedH2491 of the PhilistinesH6430 fellH5307 down by the wayH1870 to Shaaraim,H8189 even to Gath,H1661 and to Ekron.H6138
53
And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 returnedH7725 from chasingH1814 afterH310 the Philistines,H6430 and they spoiledH8155 their tents.H4264
54
And DavidH1732 tookH3947 the headH7218 of the Philistine,H6430 and broughtH935 it to Jerusalem;H3389 but he putH7760 his armorH3627 in his tent.H168
55
And when SaulH7586 sawH7200 DavidH1732 goH3318 forthH3318 againstH7125 the Philistine,H6430 he saidH559 to Abner,H74 the captainH8269 of the host,H6635 Abner,H74 whoseH4310 sonH1121 is thisH2088 youth?H5288 And AbnerH74 said,H559 As your soulH5315 lives,H2416 O king,H4428 I cannotH518 tell.H3045
56
And the kingH4428 said,H559 InquireH7592 you whoseH4310 sonH1121 the striplingH5958 is.
57
And as DavidH1732 returnedH7725 from the slaughterH5221 of the Philistine,H6430 AbnerH74 tookH3947 him, and broughtH935 him beforeH6440 SaulH7586 with the headH7218 of the PhilistineH6430 in his hand.H3027
58
And SaulH7586 saidH559 to him, WhoseH4310 sonH1121 are you, you youngH5288 man? And DavidH1732 answered,H559 I am the sonH1121 of your servantH5650 JesseH3448 the Bethlehemite.H1022
