And it cameH1961 to pass, when kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 heardH8085 it, that he rentH7167 his clothes,H899 and coveredH3680 himself with sackcloth,H8242 and wentH935 into the houseH1004 of the LORD.H3068
2
And he sentH7971 Eliakim,H471 whichH834 was overH5921 the household,H1004 and ShebnaH7644 the scribe,H5608 and the eldersH2205 of the priests,H3548 coveredH3680 with sackcloth,H8242 to IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of Amoz.H531
3
And they saidH559 to him, ThusH3541 saidH559 Hezekiah,H2396 ThisH2088 dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of trouble,H6869 and of rebuke,H8433 and blasphemy;H5007 for the childrenH1121 are comeH935 to the birth,H4866 and there is not strengthH3581 to bringH3205 forth.H3205
4
It mayH194 be the LORDH3068 your GodH430 will hearH8085 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of Rabshakeh,H7262 whomH834 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 his masterH113 has sentH7971 to reproachH2778 the livingH2416 God;H430 and will reproveH3198 the wordsH1697 whichH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 has heard:H8085 why liftH5375 up your prayerH8605 for the remnantH7611 that are left.H4672
5
So the servantsH5650 of kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 cameH935 to Isaiah.H3470
6
And IsaiahH3470 saidH559 to them, ThusH3541 shall you sayH559 to your master,H113 ThusH3541 saidH559 the LORD,H3068 Be not afraidH3372 of the wordsH1697 whichH834 you have heard,H8085 with whichH834 the servantsH5288 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 have blasphemedH1442 me.
7
Behold,H2005 I will sendH5414 a blastH7307 on him, and he shall hearH8085 a rumor,H8052 and shall returnH7725 to his own land;H776 and I will cause him to fallH5307 by the swordH2719 in his own land.H776
8
So RabshakehH7262 returned,H7725 and foundH4672 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 warringH3898 againstH5921 Libnah:H3841 for he had heardH8085 that he was departedH5265 from Lachish.H3923
9
And when he heardH8085 sayH559 of TirhakahH8640 kingH4428 of Ethiopia,H3568 Behold,H2009 he is comeH3318 out to fightH3898 against you: he sentH7971 messengersH4397 againH7725 to Hezekiah,H2396 saying,H559
10
ThusH3541 shall you speakH559 to HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of Judah,H3063 saying,H559 Let not your GodH430 in whomH834 you trustH982 deceiveH5377 you, saying,H559 JerusalemH3389 shall not be deliveredH5414 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of Assyria.H804
11
Behold,H2009 you have heardH8085 whatH853 H834 the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 have doneH6213 to allH3605 lands,H776 by destroyingH2763 them utterly: and shall you be delivered?H5337
12
Have the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 deliveredH5337 them whichH834 my fathersH1 have destroyed;H7843 as Gozan,H1470 and Haran,H2771 and Rezeph,H7530 and the childrenH1121 of EdenH5731 whichH834 were in Thelasar?H8515
13
WhereH346 is the kingH4428 of Hamath,H2574 and the kingH4428 of Arpad,H774 and the kingH4428 of the cityH5892 of Sepharvaim,H5617 of Hena,H2012 and Ivah?H5755
14
And HezekiahH2396 receivedH3947 the letterH5612 of the handH3027 of the messengers,H4397 and readH7121 it: and HezekiahH2396 wentH5927 up into the houseH1004 of the LORD,H3068 and spreadH6566 it beforeH6440 the LORD.H3068
15
And HezekiahH2396 prayedH6419 beforeH6440 the LORD,H3068 and said,H559 O LORDH3068 GodH430 of Israel,H3478 which dwellH3427 between the cherubim,H3742 you are the God,H430 even you alone,H905 of allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of the earth;H776 you have madeH6213 heavenH8064 and earth.H776
16
LORD,H3068 bowH5186 downH5186 your ear,H241 and hear:H8085 open,H6491 LORD,H3068 your eyes,H5869 and see:H7200 and hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of Sennacherib,H5576 whichH834 has sentH7971 him to reproachH2778 the livingH2416 God.H430
17
Of a truth,H551 LORD,H3068 the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 have destroyedH2717 the nationsH1471 and their lands,H776
18
And have castH5414 their godsH430 into the fire:H784 for they were noH3808 gods,H430 but the workH4639 of men'sH120 hands,H3027 woodH6086 and stone:H68 therefore they have destroyedH6 them.
19
NowH6258 therefore, O LORDH3068 our God,H430 I beseechH4994 you, saveH3467 you us out of his hand,H3027 that allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776 may knowH3045 that you are the LORDH3068 God,H430 even you only.H905
20
Then IsaiahH3470 the sonH1121 of AmozH531 sentH7971 to Hezekiah,H2396 saying,H559 ThusH3541 saidH559 the LORDH3068 GodH430 of Israel,H3478 That whichH834 you have prayedH6419 to me againstH413 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 I have heard.H8085
21
ThisH2088 is the wordH1697 that the LORDH3068 has spokenH1696 concerningH5921 him; The virginH1330 the daughterH1323 of ZionH6726 has despisedH959 you, and laughedH3932 you to scorn; the daughterH1323 of JerusalemH3389 has shakenH5128 her headH7218 at you.
22
WhomH853 H4310 have you reproachedH2778 and blasphemed?H1442 and againstH5921 whomH4310 have you exaltedH7311 your voice,H6963 and liftedH5375 up your eyesH5869 on high?H4791 even againstH5921 the HolyH6918 One of Israel.H3478
23
By your messengersH4397 you have reproachedH2778 the LORD,H3068 and have said,H559 With the multitudeH7393 of my chariotsH7393 I am comeH5927 up to the heightH4791 of the mountains,H2022 to the sidesH3411 of Lebanon,H3844 and will cutH3772 down the tallH6967 cedarH730 trees thereof, and the choiceH4005 firH1265 trees thereof: and I will enterH935 into the lodgingsH4411 of his borders,H7093 and into the forestH3293 of his Carmel.H3760
24
I have digH5365 and drunkH8354 strangeH2114 waters,H4325 and with the soleH3709 of my feetH6471 have I driedH2717 up allH3605 the riversH2975 of besiegedH4693 places.
25
Have you not heardH8085 longH7350 agoH7350 how I have doneH6213 it, and of ancientH6924 timesH3117 that I have formedH3335 it? nowH6258 have I broughtH935 it to pass, that you should be to lay wasteH7582 fencedH1219 citiesH5892 into ruinousH5327 heaps.H1530
26
Therefore their inhabitantsH3427 were of smallH7116 power,H3027 they were dismayedH2865 and confounded;H954 they were as the grassH6212 of the field,H7704 and as the greenH3419 herb,H1877 as the grassH2682 on the house tops,H1406 and as corn blastedH7711 beforeH6440 it be grownH7054 up.
27
But I knowH3045 your stayed,H3427 and your goingH3318 out, and your comingH935 in, and your rageH7264 againstH413 me.
28
BecauseH3282 your rageH7264 againstH413 me and your tumultH7600 is comeH5927 up into my ears,H241 therefore I will putH7760 my hookH2397 in your nose,H639 and my bridleH4964 in your lips,H8193 and I will turnH7725 you backH7725 by the wayH1870 by whichH834 you came.H935
29
And thisH2088 shall be a signH226 to you, You shall eatH398 this yearH8141 such things as growH5599 of themselves, and in the secondH8145 yearH8141 that which springsH7823 of the same; and in the thirdH7992 yearH8141 sowH2232 you, and reap,H7114 and plantH5193 vineyards,H3754 and eatH398 the fruitsH6529 thereof.
30
And the remnantH7604 that is escapedH6413 of the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 shall yet againH3254 take rootH8328 downward,H4295 and bearH6213 fruitH6529 upward.H4605
31
For out of JerusalemH3389 shall goH3318 forthH3318 a remnant,H7611 and they that escapeH6413 out of mountH2022 Zion:H6726 the zealH7068 of the LORDH3068 of hosts shall doH6213 this.H2063
32
ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saidH559 the LORDH3068 concerningH413 the kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 He shall not comeH935 intoH413 thisH2063 city,H5892 norH3808 shootH3384 an arrowH2671 there,H8033 norH3808 comeH6923 beforeH6924 it with shield,H4043 nor castH8210 a bankH5550 againstH5921 it.
33
By the wayH1870 that he came,H935 by the same shall he return,H7725 and shall not comeH935 intoH413 thisH2063 city,H5892 saidH5002 the LORD.H3068
34
For I will defendH1598 thisH2063 city,H5892 to saveH3467 it, for my own sake,H4616 and for my servantH5650 David'sH1732 sake.H4616
35
And it cameH1961 to pass that night,H3915 that the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 wentH3318 out, and smoteH5221 in the campH4264 of the AssyriansH804 an hundredH3967 fourscoreH8084 and fiveH2568 thousand:H505 and when they aroseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morning,H1242 behold,H2009 they were allH3605 deadH4191 corpses.H6297
36
So SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 departed,H5265 and wentH3212 and returned,H7725 and dwelledH3427 at Nineveh.H5210
37
And it cameH1961 to pass, as he was worshippingH7812 in the houseH1004 of NisrochH5268 his god,H430 that AdrammelechH152 and SharezerH8272 his sonsH1121 smoteH5221 him with the sword:H2719 and they escapedH4422 into the landH776 of Armenia.H780 And EsarhaddonH634 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.H8478
