And he criedH7121 againstH5921 the altarH4196 in the wordH1697 of the LORD,H3068 and said,H559 O altar,H4196 altar,H4196 thusH3541 saidH559 the LORD;H3068 Behold,H2009 a childH1121 shall be bornH3205 to the houseH1004 of David,H1732 JosiahH2977 by name;H8034 and on you shall he offerH2076 the priestsH3548 of the highH1116 places that burnH6999 incenseH6999 on you, and men'sH120 bonesH6106 shall be burntH8313 on you.

And he gaveH5414 a signH4159 the sameH1931 day,H3117 saying,H559 ThisH2088 is the signH4159 whichH834 the LORDH3068 has spoken;H1696 Behold,H2009 the altarH4196 shall be rent,H7167 and the ashesH1880 that are on it shall be pouredH8210 out.

And it cameH1961 to pass, when kingH4428 JeroboamH3379 heardH8085 the sayingH1697 of the manH376 of God,H430 whichH834 had criedH7121 againstH5921 the altarH4196 in Bethel,H1008 that he putH7971 forthH7971 his handH3027 from the altar,H4196 saying,H559 Lay holdH8610 on him. And his hand,H3027 whichH834 he putH7971 forthH7971 againstH5921 him, driedH3001 up, so that he couldH3201 not pullH7725 it in againH7725 to him.

The altarH4196 also was rent,H7167 and the ashesH1880 pouredH8210 out from the altar,H4196 according to the signH4159 whichH834 the manH376 of GodH430 had givenH5414 by the wordH1697 of the LORD.H3068

And the kingH4428 answeredH6030 and saidH559 to the manH376 of God,H430 EntreatH2470 nowH4994 the faceH6440 of the LORDH3068 your God,H430 and prayH6419 for me, that my handH3027 may be restoredH7725 me again.H7725 And the manH376 of GodH430 soughtH2470 the LORD,H3068 and the king'sH4428 handH3027 was restoredH7725 him again,H7725 and becameH1961 as it was before.H7223

And the kingH4428 saidH1696 to the manH376 of God,H430 ComeH935 homeH1004 with me, and refreshH5582 yourself, and I will giveH5414 you a reward.H4991

So he wentH3212 anotherH312 way,H1870 and returnedH7725 not by the wayH1870 that he cameH935 to Bethel.H1008

Now there dwelledH3427 an oldH2205 prophetH5030 in Bethel;H1008 and his sonsH1121 cameH935 and toldH5608 him allH3605 the worksH4639 that the manH376 of GodH430 had doneH6213 that dayH3117 in Bethel:H1008 the wordsH1697 whichH834 he had spokenH1696 to the king,H4428 them they toldH5608 also to their father.H1

He saidH559 to him, I am a prophetH5030 alsoH1571 as you are; and an angelH4397 spokeH1696 to me by the wordH1697 of the LORD,H3068 saying,H559 BringH7725 him backH7725 with you intoH413 your house,H1004 that he may eatH398 breadH3899 and drinkH8354 water.H4325 But he liedH3584 to him.

So he wentH7725 backH7725 with him, and did eatH398 breadH3899 in his house,H1004 and drankH8354 water.H4325

And it cameH1961 to pass, as they satH3427 atH413 the table,H7979 that the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to the prophetH5030 that broughtH7725 him back:H7725

And he criedH7121 to the manH376 of GodH430 that cameH935 from Judah,H3063 saying,H559 ThusH3541 saidH559 the LORD,H3068 For as muchH3282 H834 as you have disobeyedH4784 the mouthH6310 of the LORD,H3068 and have not keptH8104 the commandmentH4687 whichH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 commandedH6680 you,

But cameH7725 back,H7725 and have eatenH398 breadH3899 and drunkH8354 waterH4325 in the place,H4725 of the whichH834 the Lord did sayH1696 to you, EatH398 noH408 bread,H3899 and drinkH8354 noH408 water;H4325 your carcassH5038 shall not comeH935 to the sepulcherH6913 of your fathers.H1

And it cameH1961 to pass, afterH310 he had eatenH398 bread,H3899 and afterH310 he had drunk,H8354 that he saddledH2280 for him the ass,H2543 to wit, for the prophetH5030 whomH834 he had broughtH7725 back.H7725

And when he was gone,H3212 a lionH738 metH4672 him by the way,H1870 and slewH4191 him: and his carcassH5038 was castH7993 in the way,H1870 and the assH2543 stoodH5975 by it, the lionH738 also stoodH5975 by the carcass.H5038

And, behold,H2009 menH582 passedH5674 by, and sawH7200 the carcassH5038 castH7993 in the way,H1870 and the lionH738 standingH5975 by the carcass:H5038 and they cameH935 and toldH1696 it in the cityH5892 whereH834 the oldH2205 prophetH5030 dwelled.H3427

And when the prophetH5030 that broughtH7725 him backH7725 from the wayH1870 heardH8085 thereof, he said,H559 It is the manH376 of God,H430 whoH834 was disobedientH4784 to the wordH6310 of the LORD:H3068 therefore the LORDH3068 has deliveredH5414 him to the lion,H738 which has tornH7665 him, and slainH4191 him, according to the wordH1697 of the LORD,H3068 whichH834 he spokeH1696 to him.

And he spokeH1696 to his sons,H1121 saying,H559 SaddleH2280 me the ass.H2543 And they saddledH2280 him.

And he wentH3212 and foundH4672 his carcassH5038 castH7993 in the way,H1870 and the assH2543 and the lionH738 standingH5975 by the carcass:H5038 the lionH738 had not eatenH398 the carcass,H5038 norH3808 tornH7665 the ass.H2543

And the prophetH5030 tookH5375 up the carcassH5038 of the manH376 of God,H430 and laidH3240 it on the ass,H2543 and broughtH7725 it back:H7725 and the oldH2205 prophetH5030 cameH935 to the city,H5892 to mournH5594 and to buryH6912 him.

And he laidH3240 his carcassH5038 in his own grave;H6913 and they mournedH5594 overH5921 him, saying, Alas,H1945 my brother!H251

And it cameH1961 to pass, afterH310 he had buriedH6912 him, that he spokeH559 to his sons,H1121 saying,H559 When I am dead,H4191 then buryH6912 me in the sepulcherH6913 whereinH834 the manH376 of GodH430 is buried;H6912 layH3240 my bonesH6106 besideH681 his bones:H6106

For the sayingH1697 whichH834 he criedH7121 by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 againstH5921 the altarH4196 in Bethel,H1008 and againstH5921 allH3605 the housesH1004 of the highH1116 places whichH834 are in the citiesH5892 of Samaria,H8111 shall surelyH3588 comeH1961 to pass.

AfterH310 thisH2088 thingH1697 JeroboamH3379 returnedH7725 not from his evilH7451 way,H1870 but madeH6213 againH7725 of the lowestH7098 of the peopleH5971 priestsH3548 of the highH1116 places: whoever would,H2655 he consecratedH3027 him, and he becameH1961 one of the priestsH3548 of the highH1116 places.

And thisH2088 thingH1697 becameH1961 sinH2403 to the houseH1004 of Jeroboam,H3379 even to cutH3582 it off, and to destroyH8045 it from off the faceH6440 of the earth.H127
